A new day, a new wonder drug? While we don't believe in miracles we do believe in Bakuchiol. You’ll read below why you should too.
Repeat after us: "Buh - coochee - ol" - the new buzzword in the beauty world. But is it really new? Not really. In fact, this powerful little ingredient made a name for itself in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine centuries ago.
There, the seed oil of the Babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia,) native to the Indian subcontinent, is widely used today for the treatment of all kinds of skin diseases.
In the Western world, this evergreen with potent healing properties is also known as the “Arabian pea.” But we’re about more than name-dropping, so let’s talk about the benefits that make the trendy extract a shining star in the anti-aging sky
Similar to the used and tested (but synthetically obtained) retinol - aka vitamin A - it acts as a kind of “translation aid” for the skin cells to encourage them to stimulate more collagen. This gives the elasticity and strength of our connective tissue.
HERE’S WHY WE’LL BE BACKING THIS NATURAL ALTERNATIVE TO RETINOL IN THE FUTURE
- Bakuchiol gives similar results as retinol when it comes to collagen production and hence is just as effective for skin elasticity. But, without the side effects of skin dryness or irritation.
- All for one - one for all. Due to its gentle nature, Bakuchiol is suitable for sensitive skin types. It is great for your morning beauty routine because it doesn't have the light sensitivity normally found with using retinol.
- It’s more than an exfoliator due to the high proportion of natural antioxidants so flaky skin dies off more quickly and cells stay in tiptop shape.
- Gentle but powerful. It’s also a herb that protects against hyperpigmentation! Its big brother, retinol, fights more aggressively against visible UV damage such as pigment spots, but excessive use can lead to inflammation and other problematic symptoms.
SO ALL I NEED FOR A BEAUTIFUL COMPLEXION IS BAKUCHIOL?
Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Because, as it is well known, many roads lead to Rome - and there is not only one way to get a healthy, even complexion (more about this in our article “The truth about working out effects your skin”). That is why we use hyaluronic acid in our Face Serum in addition to Bakuchiol. Because while the former increases the elasticity of the skin, hyaluronic acid stores moisture intensively in the upper and lower skin layers and therefore provides moisture all around.
So: Herb your enthusiasm, girls! This is really good stuff.
